In Chaoran Building, I am no longer transcendent.

Located on the shore of Daming Lake in Jinan, Chaoran Tower is 51.7 meters high and has seven floors. It is known as the "No. 1 Tower in Jiangbei." Historically, Chaoran Tower was built in the Yuan Dynasty. It is one of the "Eight New Scenic Spots of Minghu Lake" and is as famous as Yueyang Tower in Yueyang, Hunan, Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Hubei, Tengwang Pavilion in Nanchang, Jiangxi, etc. It is considered a "Famous Historical and Cultural Tower in China." The name of Chaoran Tower is taken from Su Shi’s poem "Looking at Jiangnan·Written at Chaoran Terrace". The word "chaoran" in this poem is taken from Laozi's "Although there are glorious views, I live in a transcendental place", which means to be detached from the world and free from constraints. Chaoran Tower was originally built by Li Jing, a scholar of the Yuan Dynasty, on the bank of Daming Lake as his own residence. It was later repaired and rebuilt when Daming Lake was expanded. The name of Chaoran Tower is also to commemorate Su Shi's Chaoran Terrace. The current Chaoran Tower was rebuilt in 2007. Inside the building are exhibits such as the rubbing of the stone stele of Li Dong's representative work "Poems on Crossing Caijiang River", Li Jing's inscription on Huang Tingjian's "Songfengge Calligraphy", as well as wood carvings and root carvings such as "Eight Scenic Spots of Jinan", "Ten Thousand Horses Galloping" and "Dragon Spitting Nine Carp". The reason why Chaoran Building has become an Internet celebrity spot is because everyone comes to see the moment when its lights are turned on. Although it is very beautiful, I don’t know why it has become so popular, and somehow I have become a part of the check-in crowd. The lights were turned on at 18:20 during the National Day holiday. At around 5:00 p.m., the small square in front of Chaoran Building was already crowded with people standing side by side. The scene was comparable to the crowd watching the flag-raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square. It was scary. I even had a fear of a stampede when I saw the crowds leaving after watching the lights on the stone bridge.
