Jieyang Xuegong, originally the second largest Confucian Temple in China

Jieyang, often overlooked by tourists visiting the Chaoshan area, actually predates both Chaozhou and Shantou in historical records. Jieyang boasts a rich cultural heritage, including four national key cultural relics protection units, one of which is the Jieyang Xuegong, the focus of today's discussion. Jieyang Xuegong, also known as the Confucian Temple or Wenmiao, was first built in the tenth year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1140). The main existing structures are relics from the reconstruction during the second year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1876). Compared to Chaoyang Confucian Temple, Jieyang Xuegong has a more complete layout, consisting of 21 individual buildings, symmetrically arranged along the central axis, creating a unique aesthetic. It is said to be the second largest Confucian Temple in China, second only to the Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong. Jieyang Xuegong also served as a venue for revolutionary activities. During the Great Revolution and after the Nanchang Uprising, Premier Zhou Enlai lived and worked here on several occasions.
