Cao Wang Temple, Jiaxing, Zhejiang

Cao Wang Temple in Jiaxing is also known as "Cao Huang Temple" and "Xiao Cao Wang Temple." It was built in memory of the famous general Cao Bin of the Northern Song Dynasty. It was rebuilt by Shen Jianlong during the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty, repaired during the reign of Emperor Qianlong, destroyed at the end of the reign of Emperor Xianfeng, and rebuilt during the reign of Emperor Tongzhi. The temple covers an area of 2,547 square meters, faces south, and is made of brick and wood. It is symmetrical along the central axis and has three main halls, with a total width of 43 meters and a total depth of 59.24 meters. The first hall is a three-bay bungalow with nine beams and a beam-lifting structure, and is dedicated to the famous general Cao Bin. The second hall is a two-story, three-bay building with corridors to the north and south, seven beams and a beam-lifting structure, and a side room on the east side, which is also dedicated to Buddha statues. There is a corridor between the first and second halls. The third hall is newly built. There are also newly built buildings such as a bell tower, wing rooms, small halls, a canteen, and a kitchen. It is a key cultural relic protection site in Jiaxing.
