Winter in Jeju Island is the off-season, but there are fewer tourists, and the prices for goods and airfare are very cheap. The scenery includes the uncommon sight of snow on Mount Hallasan and the stark cliffs by the sea, which for travelers who don't mind the cold and the sea breeze, is actually a better season to experience. Jeju Island has hotels of all grades, ranging from luxurious to economical, and it really depends on the traveler's purpose and the transportation situation to the destination. After considering different options, I booked the Ramada Jeju City Hotel. There aren't many attractions around this hotel, but the advantage is that almost all the places I wanted to go to are accessible by direct public transport passing by the hotel, including the airport, the Hanra Mountain Seongpanak trailhead, Seongsan Ilchulbong, and most places in the city area. Since I planned to climb Mount Hallasan before dawn, convenient transportation is a very important factor. The hotel is an older Ramada, with somewhat outdated decor and facilities. However, there is a bhc fried chicken and a 7-11 downstairs, and there are other dining options and cafes nearby, which is very convenient. If you walk towards the Jeju City Hall, there are even more dining options and a street of bars. Although the rooms are old, they are still quite clean. Rooms on the higher floors facing the outside have a view of Mount Hallasan, and some have a view of the sea, which is quite nice. The hotel staff can speak Chinese and English and are very enthusiastic. The hotel does not provide disposable toiletries, but they can be purchased from the vending machine downstairs or at the convenience store. The off-season price is between 300-400.
