Explore the Hidden Hot Spring Paradise of Nyuto Onsen in Japan

Nyuto Onsen, a renowned hot spring village, is composed of Tsurunoyu, Kaniyu Onsen, Taenoyu, Oogama Onsen, Kyukamura Nyuto Onsenkyo, Kuroyu Onsen, and Magoroku Onsen (the last two are closed in winter). Even if you can't secure a reservation at the highly sought-after Tsurunoyu, which requires booking a year in advance, don't worry. Staying at any of the hot spring inns allows you to purchase a hot spring tour pass. This pass includes a free shuttle bus and one-time entry to all the hot spring inns, valid for one year. Tsurunoyu is the most popular and remote, boasting a 300-year history, milky blue waters, and unique wooden bathhouses, making it highly recommended. Kaniyu Onsen features a mixed-gender open-air bath that requires a 50-meter walk through the snow, known as the loneliest bathhouse. However, the rooms are old, service is average, and meals are basic, so it's not highly recommended. Taenoyu is highly recommended for its excellent service, exquisite decor, and rooms with great views of streams, forests, and waterfalls. You can also reserve private baths and enjoy A5 Wagyu shabushabu. Arrive early to borrow a yukata for picturesque photos.
