Isle of Skye, Scotland Guide & Hiking Share

One of the most iconic spots on the Isle of Skye The Storr Rock Guide Time: Mid-October, luckily had sunny days throughout the Highlands trip ☀️ 🚗 Vehicle: Manual Nissan JUKE Familiar with Commonwealth driving rules from driving in New Zealand Car rental in the UK is really expensive, under 23 years old you have to pay a huge young driver surcharge Rented for 4 days total, rental fee + local insurance (glass and tires) + young driver fee about 6000 RMB. Picked up the car from Drivalia, they highly recommend insurance, very pricey! Chose near full coverage (glass and tires + £250 excess waiver). It was okay, no unexpected charges later, probably because I drove carefully. 🗺️: Self-driving route roughly: Day 1 Edinburgh - Fort William, Day 2 Fort William - Portree, Day 3 Portree - Loch Ness, Day 4 Loch Ness - Edinburgh. Almost circled the Isle of Skye, about 200 km driving daily, very easy. The scenery is amazing Here you have storms, wilderness, snow-capped mountains, castles, and emerald-colored lakes!! 🍽️ No supply issues all the way to the Isle of Skye, small towns along the way all have supermarkets, food options are limited, fish and chips to fit in with local customs. No need to prepare supplies in advance as some online say, there’s a Coop next to gas stations. 🧗: Navigate to The Storr Rock, there is a parking lot 🅿️ where you swipe Visa to buy a six-hour parking ticket and place it on the car window, then you can start hiking (almost all parking requires ticket on the window, otherwise heavy fines). Hiking to the cover photo spot takes about 1 hour, just keep walking and walking. There is a sheep gate in the middle, just pull the pole open. The path is easy to walk, the scenery is incredibly stunning and shocking 🧤: Clothing tips: Peak Performance shell jacket, wore only a Uto thermal quick-dry base layer inside, carried a Trek100 down jacket in the bag but didn’t use it, probably because the dynamic movement kept me warm. Pants and backpack are Decathlon MH500, shoes are Kolon Move (hiking shoes with Vibram soles are best, very convenient on gravel roads). Carried a 2L bottle of Coke and a banana 🍌 (brought the peel down, tundra is hard to decompose banana peels). The parking lot has toilets and trash bins. Overall difficulty is low, the scenery is breathtaking, making other Isle of Skye views pale in comparison (except for Neist Point). The beauty of Scotland lies in the green tundra mountains and seas Fills the gap of no beautiful scenery in the UK!! Friends with UK visas, it’s really worth making a separate trip just for the Scottish Highlands Sharing above.
