Turquoise water of Moraine Lake

Moraine Lake is a snow and glacially fed lake in Banff National Park, 14 kilometres outside the village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 1,884 metres. The lake has a surface area of 50 hectares. PLEASE NOTE: Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles year-round. Did you know why lakes in rocky mountains has a turquoise color water? It is because As glacial meltwater carries sediments, it creates a suspension in the water, scattering light and causing it to appear blue. The combination of glacial milk and the reflective properties of the suspended rock flour particles results in lakes such as Lake Moraine and Lake Louise #rockymountains #kayaking #glaciers #turquoisewaters #banff

Moraine Lake

Moraine Lake is arguably one of the most beautiful places in the world. Blue-green water that looks like it couldn’t be real and snow capped peaks. The Moraine Lake area also has several amazing hikes that all begin at its shores. Consolation Lakes, Mount Temple and Larch Valley are just a few of the options available. Don’t forget you can also canoe here as well! #canada #banff #lake #reflection

These were all taken over a morning at Moraine. We got there to see the stars at night. Then it got super cloudy as blue hour stared, before clearing a little bit for golden hour. Can you spot the rainbow? #awesomepic

Have you ever seen water this blue? Moraine Lake is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful spots on Earth. What makes the lake this color? Silt, which comes from the glaciers! It's essentially "rock flour" that catches sunlight and makes the water appear brilliantly blue. Travel tip: This lake is only open for 5 months in the summer!

Moraine Lake is very easy to get to. Seeing the lake doesn't require any hiking unless you want to get to a higher vantage point. Then there are several logs to cross and big rock pile to climb up.
