The purpose of constructing this building was to subsidize the scholars of Huizhou Prefecture to participate in the provincial and metropolitan examinations; currently, the building is the site of the Huizhou Ancient Imperial Examination System Exhibition Hall. In July 1990, the Huizhou Municipal People's Government announced that it was selected as the third batch of Huizhou cultural relics protection units. On December 10, 2015, the People's Government of Guangdong Province announced that it was upgraded to the eighth batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units.
