Kowloon Temple

Jiulong Zen Temple on Jiulong Mountain in Huishui, Guizhou, is the temple where the "Prince Buddha" appeared and was founded by the founder, Master Guyuan, in the 21st year of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1682 AD). The original site of Jiulong Zen Temple is located on a gradually rising terrain. It consists of two courtyards, a stone gate, a flower garden in the front yard, and the main building in the back yard is the Great Leiyin Hall (also known as the Great Hall of the Buddha). On the right wall in front of the Great Leiyin Hall are carved four large characters "It's not the depth of the water that matters", which were the handwriting of the founder of the temple. In front of the mountain gate, there is a clear spring flowing out from the cracks in the rocks, which is clear and delicious all year round. Due to the unique geographical environment, Jiulong Temple is surrounded by nine peaks. Therefore, it is known as "the temple surrounded by nine clouds". On the third day of the third lunar month in the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), all the halls of Jiulongshan Temple except the Sutra Library were burned down by fire. In 1950, the Sutra Library was burned down again. The site of Jiulong Temple was later built into Jiulongshan Primary School. Although Kowloon Temple was destroyed, its historical reputation still lives on. Every year on the third day of the third lunar month, the eighth day of the fourth lunar month and the sixth day of the sixth lunar month, the local Miao people dress in their best clothes and gather at Jiulong Mountain to celebrate the festival.
