Famous Folly - Worth the climb!

Penshaw Monument is at the top of a steep hill near the village of Penshaw, not far from Sunderland. Built in the style of an Ancient Greek temple in honour of Earl John Lambton who was at one time Governor General of the British North American Territories! The steep walk up is made easier by well spaced steps. I visited early morning as sun was rising and the beam’s shining through the columns were quite impressive. Great views across the surrounding countryside and saw some beautiful flowering wild thistles on the climb upwards. Monument itself is spoiled a little by some graffiti, but all in all well worth the climb 😅 #awesomepic
