First time in Hong Kong

Visiting Hong Kong for the first time and traveling from Mainland China as a South African, only our passports and reason for entry were required. My family and I stayed at Urbanwood in Ap Lei Chau, which was a few minutes' walk from the metro station. After entering Hong Kong, the first thing I did was to withdraw money (if one ATM doesn't work, try the next one; I was struggling to withdraw money from my international account). However, my Bank of China card worked at the Bank of China ATM. I suggest drawing money from HSBC if you want to withdraw money from your international account. Next, I bought a SIM card at China Mobile, but SIM cards can be purchased at 7-Eleven as well. Also, cash was needed to purchase the Airport Express Train tickets because there was no one at customer service. Apps that helped me a lot were: Alipay HK (money can be uploaded at 7-Eleven if you are struggling to upload money), the HK taxi app, the MTR metro app, Explore Hong Kong MTR (metro maps), and foodpanda. You can connect the AliPay HK app to your MTR metro app, and you can use the metro without having to use an Octopus card or buy tickets. The AliPay HK can also be connected to Foodpanda to buy food online. Areas that we visited were: Ap Lei Chau, Aberdeen, Central, Wan Chai, Mong Kok, etc., and all these areas have so many attractions, restaurants, and things that one can do. My suggestion would be to decide what you want to do in Hong Kong and only select one activity a day, as the places are quite far apart (this is if you travel with children). Also, keep in mind to wear comfortable shoes because Hong Kong is very hilly. The weather was absolutely amazing during our stay (February month), the locals are very friendly, and we were very surprised with everyone that we came across that could understand and speak English. There are also many affordable transportation options because taxis are very expensive, especially with the distance between attractions. There is definitely so much one can see and do in Hong Kong, and one thing that I really enjoyed was how clean the city and their metro station were. My family and I will definitely visit HK again because there is still so much that we would like to see and explore. #hongkong #urbanwood #explorehongkong #travelwithkids
