New exhibition at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall explains Tsinghua University's history

As this year marks the 112th anniversary of the founding of Tsinghua University, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has collaborated with the Tsinghua University History Museum to hold a special exhibition "Self-improvement and Virtue - People and Events of Tsinghua University" at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall from today. By exhibiting historical materials from Tsinghua University, the public can understand the early development of Tsinghua University and feel the friendship between Hong Kong and Tsinghua. 　　 Founded in 1911, Tsinghua University is located in the scenic Tsinghua Garden in Beijing, which was originally the site of the Qing Dynasty gardens outside the city. It is a world-renowned Chinese institution of higher learning. Tsinghua University has grown from a preparatory school for selecting international students to a world-leading modern comprehensive university. Adhering to the school motto of "Self-improvement and Virtue" and the academic style of "Actions speak louder than words", it has nurtured numerous students and molded pillars of the country, bringing important and far-reaching influence to the development of modern China. 　　 This exhibition displays about 60 sets of school history materials from the collection of Tsinghua University History Museum, elaborating on the early development of the university and introducing the outstanding achievements of eight outstanding scholars including Mei Yiqi, Ye Qisun, Liang Qichao, Liang Sicheng, Chen Yinke, Zhao Yuanren, Zhu Ziqing and Ma Yuehan. In addition to historical photos, key exhibits include a letter from 1909 approving the allocation of funds for the construction of the American Study Hall in Tsinghua University, the National Tsinghua University Regulations of 1928, and a "Letter to the People of the Nation" issued by the Student National Salvation Association in 1935, which lamented that "North China is so big that there is no place for a peaceful desk!" The exhibits also include items from the collection of the Hong Kong Museum of History, including a certificate issued by the Imperial College in the 30th year of the Guangxu period (1904). 　　 The special exhibition "Self-improvement and Virtue - People and Events at Tsinghua University" is jointly organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Tsinghua University History Museum, and planned by the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
