The University of Hong Kong Art Museum

The Hong Kong University Art and Museum was originally known as the Fung Ping Shan Museum and was founded in 1953. Its current site was formerly the Hong Kong University Fung Ping Shan Library, which was officially established in 1932 and was named after its donor. The first time I came here was in June, but the museum was temporarily closed and I couldn't visit. I visited again successfully yesterday and saw four exhibitions in one go. The museum's exhibition halls are located in the Fung Ping Shan Building and the Tsui Chin Tong Building, connected by an indoor sky bridge. Feng Pingshan Building is three stories high, with red brick exterior walls and a symmetrical butterfly shape in plan. The fan-shaped atrium was once an open library space, with side halls on both sides, which now serve as permanent exhibition halls. The butterfly-shaped design of the building's floor plan, also known as the double-lighting design, was a popular architectural feature in the 19th century. Natural light shines through the roof, and viewing the exhibition in clear weather feels like being in an indoor garden, which is very comfortable. #HKU
