Sai Kung is home to many hidden cafes, and this time we visited Neko Bear Den. The cafe's adorable name is matched by its relaxing ambiance. Featuring a rustic wooden theme, the interior is adorned with wood, rattan, and dried flowers, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere perfect for a getaway. We tried their main dishes, desserts, and tea-based drinks, and the highlights were: 🍜 Pan-Seared Scallops with Anchovy White Broth Handmade Udon ($205) This udon dish is a standout! The scallops are perfectly seared with a crispy exterior and tender interior, bursting with oceanic flavor. The white broth, infused with a subtle anchovy aroma, is rich yet not overwhelming. The handmade udon has a delightfully chewy texture and absorbs the broth beautifully. 🍵 Hojicha Chocolate Pancakes ($165) The combination of hojicha and chocolate is simply divine. The slight bitterness of the hojicha balances the sweetness of the chocolate perfectly. The pancakes are fluffy without being overly dense, and the layers and sauce are proportioned just right, making it sweet but not cloying. The cafe specializes in tea-based drinks, offering a wide variety. We tried: Italian Golden Orange Black Tea ($68) The tea has a refreshing aroma with hints of orange peel. Cold-brewed for a crisp taste, it’s perfect for a summer afternoon. Pineapple Tea A well-balanced blend of sweet and tangy with a light fruity aroma. It pairs wonderfully with desserts. While the prices at Neko Bear Den are on the higher side for a cafe, the quality of ingredients, meticulous preparation, and overall ambiance make it worth the cost.
