Roche Family's New Year Dinner at Kinzakaya

Today, I'm sharing the Roche family's New Year dinner for the Year of the Snake, where we chose Japanese cuisine that everyone loves to celebrate the New Year. The restaurant is called Kinzakaya, located in Lai Chi Kok, which is quite convenient for me, who lives in Tung Chung. As soon as we stepped into the restaurant, we felt the lively atmosphere! There are booth seats and a bar counter, and we were seated in a private room with high privacy. Inside, there is a faux tatami mat that gives a traditional feel without the need to sit cross-legged, making it very comfortable. Dad chose the Kyoto Yuzu Japanese Craft Beer for $68! It has a subtle yuzu fragrance on top of the basic beer flavor, making it much more acceptable than the traditional beer's acacia flavor. Shizuoka High-Sugar Tomato Mixed Salad for $78! The sweet and juicy Shizuoka tomatoes live up to their reputation, paired with refreshing mizuna and sour tomato dressing, making it delicious and appetizing. Kinzakaya Cup for $168! This signature dish includes large pieces of sea urchin, salty salmon roe, rich fatty tuna paste, and sweet snow crab meat. The combination of these three salty seafoods brings out the taste of the ocean, which is very impactful. Kinzakaya Box for $158! This dish has a beautiful presentation! It consists of sea urchin, salmon roe, and Japanese tofu, served in a transparent container, making it look very elegant. The sweet cotton candy is topped with crispy monaka wafers! Inside, it is filled with salty salmon roe, flavorful Japanese tofu, and fresh sea urchin. Each bite is full of salty and fresh flavors, leaving a lasting impression. Sea Urchin Gunkan for $98/2 pieces! The sea urchin in the previous two appetizers was very fresh, so we also ordered the sea urchin gunkan to satisfy my uncle's love for sea urchin. The sea urchin grains are distinct, bright in color, and deliciously fresh, definitely worth trying. Kinzakaya Dragon Ball Sea Urchin Tuna Roll for $158! Honestly, I came for this signature dish. Just looking at the runny presentation makes my mouth water! The homemade soy-marinated egg yolk brings out a unique sweet flavor, paired with the equally fresh tuna paste and sea urchin, making this roll truly harmonious. Then we tasted a series of skewers! Starting with the Black Pork Asparagus Roll for $58 and Awao Chicken Kidney for $38/skewer, the thinly sliced black pork wrapped around the sweet and juicy asparagus is very juicy, and the chicken kidney is grilled to a dry and chewy texture. Awao Chicken Wing for $38/piece! The chicken skin is grilled to a crispy texture, while the inside remains tender and juicy, performing well. Awao Chicken Tail for $58! It is very flavorful without being greasy. If it were grilled a bit more crispy, it would be even more to my liking! Additionally, my sister-in-law's Mentaiko Chicken Wing for $58 looks very plump and is said to taste good. Soy Sauce Grilled Rice Ball for $28/piece! As someone who always loves grilled rice balls, I had to try it. I think this grilled rice ball could be more crispy, with room for improvement. They, who love beef, ordered the Wagyu Sukiyaki for $480! It includes Kagoshima A4 Wagyu, wild vegetables, mushrooms, and mochi pouches. Dad said the beef quality is very good. At this point, the staff thoughtfully gifted us a surprise sake! Everyone could choose their favorite sake cup to enjoy, which made us very happy. The indulgent Dad chose the Sea Urchin Foie Gras Rice for $168! The soft rice paired with the flavorful foie gras and fresh sea urchin made it very enjoyable. Finally, there was the Angus Beef Bonito Soup Inaniwa Udon for $128! I was already too full to taste it, so I left it to them to savor. The service attitude at Kinzakaya is top-notch! The dishes have their own unique flavors and are quite good. The prices are very reasonable, making it a restaurant worth returning to.
