Savoring the Nostalgic Tea Culture of Old Hong Kong

Nostalgia has become a treasure in Hong Kong over the years, with old banknotes, buildings, and toys... This time, I visited the renowned tea house 'Choi Lung Tea House' in Chuen Lung Village, Tai Mo Shan, to savor its nostalgic dim sum and experience the tea culture. Unlike typical restaurants, this place is entirely self-service. Guests make their own tea, get their own utensils, and pick their own food. Although it takes some getting used to, it's quite fun. Especially in the dim sum area, where a variety of hot dim sum is laid out for you to choose from. Whenever fresh dim sum is served, guests rush to grab it, making it particularly fresh and lively! No wonder many hikers and nature lovers come here for tea on holidays! There are many nostalgic dim sum options, such as Paper-Wrapped Pork Ribs, Quail Egg Siu Mai, Chicken Buns, Sesame Rolls, and Fried Dough. ▫️Siu Mai - The Siu Mai here are large, with solid meat filling that is fresh and flavorful, offering a great texture. ▫️Quail Egg Siu Mai - Rarely seen nowadays, these Siu Mai are topped with quail eggs, adding a rich egg flavor. Sinful but delicious! ▫️Shrimp Dumplings/Chiu Chow Dumplings - Although the skin is not very thin, the filling is abundant. Plus, being freshly taken from the dim sum area, they are extra tasty. ▫️Steamed Spare Ribs - The spare ribs are juicy, tender, and perfect as a side dish with rice. ▫️Beef Tripe - The more you eat, the more flavorful it gets. Slightly spicy and very appetizing, also great as a side dish with rice. ▫️Pan-Fried Stuffed Items - The stuffed dace fish dishes are particularly outstanding. The fish meat is flavorful and bouncy, thickly stuffed in green peppers and eggplants. Dip it in soy sauce or chili oil for extra flavor! ▫️Tofu Pudding - Made with mountain water, the tofu pudding here is smooth and delicate, with a light bean fragrance.
