Statutory Monuments. Kowloon Reservoirs.

Kowloon Reservoirs are a group of reservoirs located to the north of the Kowloon Peninsula in Hong Kong, situated within Kam Shan Country Park. Following the MacLehose Trail Section 6, it is an easy route suitable for hiking beginners. The main dam and spillway dam are designated as statutory monuments, with the main reservoir dam featuring a double-arch design. The reservoir group consists of four reservoirs: 1. Kowloon Reservoir: Built in 1910, it is the first reservoir in the New Territories. The main dam and spillway dam are designated as statutory monuments in Hong Kong, with the main reservoir dam boasting a double-arch design that is breathtaking. 2. Kowloon Byewash Reservoir: Constructed in 1931, it has a storage capacity of 185 million gallons. 3. Kowloon Reception Reservoir (Shek Lei Pui): Established in 1926, it receives potable water from Shing Mun Reservoir via aqueducts, the North Tunnel, and the South Tunnel, and then transports it to the Shek Lei Pui Water Treatment Works for filtration. 4. Shek Lei Pui Reservoir: Built in 1925, it is usually considered part of the Kowloon Reservoirs system. This reservoir is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery, and walking along the reservoir bank, one can enjoy the lush green water surface and the tranquil mountain streams.
