The Value of Peace, the History of Hong Kong War

"Hong Kong Coastal Defence Story" Covering the time and space of Hong Kong's coastal defense history, from the Ming Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty, it shows that Hong Kong is located in the southern part of China's territory and guards the gateway to the Pearl River, and its strategic value in maritime defense. The Opium War marked the beginning of the invasion of China by foreign powers. Britain coveted Hong Kong's excellent seaport and unique geographical location. It occupied Hong Kong in 1841 and attempted to build it into a naval base to consolidate its political and economic interests in Asia. Subsequently, forts were built in various districts of Hong Kong, which also demonstrated the importance of Hong Kong’s strategic position. Japanese militarists invaded Northeast China in 1931, and the War of Resistance against Japan began. Hong Kong people actively supported the mainland's anti-Japanese war. In December 1941, Japan invaded and occupied Hong Kong. The Battle of 18 Days ended with the surrender of the British army, but the anti-Japanese guerrillas in Hong Kong continued to fight the enemy and made contributions to the war of resistance. On July 1, 1997, Hong Kong returned to the motherland. The Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison entered Hong Kong, took over military facilities, shouldered the defense of Hong Kong, ensured the security and stability of Hong Kong, and opened a new chapter in Hong Kong's defense history. The permanent exhibition features a number of new themes including the Tuen Mun garrison in the Tang Dynasty, warships that visited Hong Kong, the Hong Kong docks, and stories of British Chinese and Gurkha soldiers serving in Hong Kong. It also strengthens the display of content related to China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, such as Japan's invasion of China, Hong Kong's support for the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the Battle of Hong Kong and its fall, the activities behind enemy lines of the Hong Kong and Kowloon Independent Battalion of the Dongjiang Column, and Japan's surrender. The museum has specially added the element of "people", such as oral history clips of guerrillas and soldiers of different ethnicities during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, allowing the audience to get closer to history through the experiences of the interviewees. In terms of display format, in addition to further enriching the exhibition content and exhibits, in addition to including cultural relics, historical pictures, animations and videos, the exhibition also makes extensive use of novel display techniques, flexibly applies multimedia production, audio-visual effects and interactive installations, and adds immersive scenes to present the historical diversity of Hong Kong in a more interesting way.
