Hoi An's Iconic Landmark: The Japanese Bridge

I traveled extensively through Hue, Hoi An, and Da Nang. I thought this place would be an excellent choice for a future honeymoon destination. Although the weather was somewhat hot, I was satisfied. Hoi An's Chua Cau is a symbolic site in the old town, famous for its Japanese-style architecture. Built by Japanese merchants in the 17th century, it is even depicted on Vietnamese currency. Chua Cau is associated with the legendary monster Namazu. It was believed that the monster's body stretched from Vietnam to Japan, causing natural disasters with its movements. The bridge was constructed to control the monster, symbolizing peace and prosperity. This bridge is also known as the Japanese Bridge or Lai Vien Kieu, meaning 'Bridge to Welcome Guests from Afar.'
