Ho Chi Minh City is the capital of South Vietnam before, and is known as Saigon. The communist government renamed Saigon in honor of Hồ Chí Minh shortly after the Fall of Saigon in 1975. It is the largest city in Vietnam, with a population of a little less than 9 million in 2019. Ho Chi Minh City is a major center for finance, media, technology, education, and transportation in the country. Tan Son Nhat International Airport is the main airport serving the city, and is the busiest airport in the country in terms of passenger traffic, accounting for nearly half of all international arrivals to Vietnam. Tourist attractions in Ho Chi Minh City are mainly related to periods of French colonization and the Vietnam War. The city's center has some wide American-style boulevards and a few French colonial buildings.
