2024 Ho Chi Minh City Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in October)
Ho Chi Minh City was formerly known as Saigon. It is one of Vietnam's liveliest cities and a hub for commerce and culture. This place has all kinds of classically elegant French buildings that were left behind from the colonial period. You will feel almost as if you are in Paris. Apart from the sightseeing tours of places like the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon, the Ho Chi Minh City City Hall and the Municipal Theatre, you can witness more grand French-style architecture off the beaten path by visiting the Central Post Office and mail a post card. At the Reunification Palace and the War Remnants Museum you can learn about Vietnam's more recent history, take a boat trip along the Mekong River, or enjoy a cup of Vietnamese coffee in an old French-style café. Phạm Ngũ Lão Street is very quiet and peaceful during daylight hours. Once night falls, however, this place comes alive. Not only an excellent place to enjoy the city's nightlife, it is also a favorite place for backpackers to stay.

City walking in Ho Chi Minh is one of the best activities to do! There is so much going on in the vibrant city. Street walking vendors selling fruit, hundreds of motorbikes whizzing down the road, beautiful light at night, there is no reason not to visit Ho Chi Minh.

The most emotional experience in Vietnam 🥺💔
#museums
Visiting the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City 🕊️
This museum offers an intense look into the history and impact of the Vietnam War, providing important insights into the country's past.
🖼️ Historical Exhibits:
The museum houses a wide range of exhibits, including photographs, artifacts, and military equipment, that document the harsh realities of war. Each exhibit tells a story of courage, resilience, and the human cost of conflict. 📜
🌍 Global Perspective:
What makes this museum stand out is its focus on both Vietnamese and international perspectives. It’s a sobering reminder of the impact of war not just on Vietnam, but on the world. 🌏
✊ Human Stories:
Some of the most moving parts of the museum are the personal stories—photos and letters from soldiers and civilians that give a human face to the history. These stories resonate deeply and make you reflect on the true cost of war. 💔
📸 Outdoor Displays:
The museum also features outdoor displays of military vehicles, helicopters, and fighter jets. Standing next to these massive machines really brings home the scale of the conflict. 🚁
💔 Why I’m Moved:
Visiting the War Remnants Museum was a humbling experience. It’s a place that makes you pause and reflect on the past, and appreciate the value of peace. It’s a must-visit for anyone wanting to understand Vietnam’s history more deeply.
If you’re in Ho Chi Minh City, make time to visit this important museum. It’s a place for learning, reflection, and understanding. 🕊️

Best coffee in Vietnam at Trung Nguyen cafe
#cafestory
As a coffee lover, I spent my weekend getaway to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It is known as one of the best country that has amazing coffee quality in the world. For recommendation, I highly recommend you to go to Cafe Trung Nguyen Legend Coffee. They have 5 variant of its own best coffee called Sang Tao, which is:
Variant 1: Culi Robusta
Variant 2: Robusta & Arabica
Variant 3: Arabica SE
Variant 4: Culi Arabica + Robusta
Variant 5: Culi Arabica
I tried variant 4 and it's really suit my taste, in fact that was the best coffee I have ever had!
It is not hard to find this cafe because it is spread all over the city and easy to find.
Here is the one I went to:
Address - 📍Trung Nguyen Legend Cafe Van Chiem
Ambiance - warm and relaxing
Highlights - Sang Tao coffee

Cafe Reviews in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam
1. Ola Hale Restaurant & Bar
Address - In front of the Pink Church
Highlights - Clear and beautiful view of the church. The cafe has 4 floors, each with picturesque views. The first floor is a cafe, the second floor serves food, the third floor is a bar, and the fourth floor is a rooftop. The drinks are delicious, but a bit pricey. However, the view is worth it.
Rating - 8/10. The staff are very attentive and provide good service, but you can't choose your own table, which is a bit disappointing. The cafe charges a service fee, which we felt was unnecessary as the service wasn't exceptional. The best part was the security guard who helped us cross the street; he deserved all the tips.
2. Meraki Cafe
Address - Located on the 5th floor of the cafe apartment. We walked up, but there's a charge for using the elevator, which the cafe can refund.
Highlights - Delicious drinks and a great atmosphere. The area we sat in was filled with aromatic products. The cafe sells tea, fragrances, scented candles, and sprays, all of which smell wonderful. They also sell handmade items.
Rating - 10/10. Everything was perfect, and the staff provided excellent service.
3. Paper&I Cafe
Address - Near our accommodation, just a short walk across the street in District 3.
Highlights - The cafe has 3 floors. The first floor is the cafe area, the second floor is a quiet library for reading, and the third floor serves food and drinks. The drinks were a bit unusual; they tend to add strange ingredients to the tea. I ordered peach tea, and they added lotus seeds, which gave it a formalin-like smell. It was a bit disappointing, but the decor is cute and the atmosphere is nice.
Rating - 10/10. There are many drink options, the atmosphere is good, the air conditioning is cool, and there's free Wi-Fi for customers. If you choose the right drink, it can be delicious.
4. Highlands
Address - Located in Tan Son Nhat Airport, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
Highlights - There are seats for customers, but they are in the sun, so we sat in front of the cafe instead. The drinks are made quickly and taste good. The staff provide good service and recommend combo deals for drinks and snacks. The snacks are delicious and worth the price.
Rating - 10/10. The staff provide good service, though they don't smile much. They also prepare spoons and straws for drinks with fruit toppings.

Vietnam Travel Guide | Almost got heatstroke in Ho Chi Minh
In Ho Chi Minh for a few days it was:
💒 Checking out attractions
🍜 Eating Vietnamese noodles
☕️ Drinking coffee
🛍️ Shopping for clothes
💆♀️ Getting a massage
1️⃣ About attractions
- If you have time, the Central Post Office/Pink Church/Art Gallery/War Remnants Museum are all worth a visit
- The Central Post Office is quite small, and there are some souvenir shops inside
- We went to the Pink Church on the weekend when it was closed, so we just took photos at the coffee shop opposite
- The Art Gallery is relatively large and worth visiting, also very photogenic
- The War Remnants Museum is the most popular, mainly about the history of the Vietnam War, and there are a lot of Western visitors
2️⃣ About Vietnamese noodles
- Didn't specifically plan to eat at any particular place, just randomly went to a Vietnamese noodle shop near the Central Post Office, turned out to be a hidden gem
- Picture 10, the shop name is pho cao van
- Ordered two bowls of beef noodles with a whole 🥥 for only 45 RMB
- There was also a compatriot eating there who didn't have cash, so he exchanged with us on WeChat. When paying, we told the owner we would pay together, and when she saw we were not at the same table, she told the compatriot not to worry about it and to come back after exchanging money.
3️⃣ About coffee
- Visited the popular ones like the workshop coffee / dabao / Linh, etc.
- Vietnamese coffee is really good! Especially the salted coffee, which is salty and sweet!
- Coconut coffee is too sweet for me, but those who like sweet drinks can try it
4️⃣ About shopping
- If you want to keep it simple, just go to D Nguyen Trai street
- I don't think you need to specifically look for a certain store, many of the stores recommended online didn't have anything great, and some of the more popular ones were of average quality
- Anyway, there are super many clothing stores on this street, if you have time you can visit each one
- The green short-sleeved shirt in pictures 5/8/11 was just from a random store, only 55 yuan!! And the quality is pretty good
5️⃣ About massage
- Massage shops are everywhere, but still check Google Maps for reviews according to your needs
- I had a body massage at Norah spa, the environment is relatively better, comfort level is average, similar to domestic ones, but definitely cheaper
- Had a hair wash at Xuan Lan Spa&Hair, also not expensive, quite formal, worth experiencing
- Both of these shops are on the same street, very close to each other, and there are also some clothing stores nearby like Datt/ S.C Studio etc.
- Finally, make sure to wear sunscreen, Ho Chi Minh is really super hot and the sun is extremely strong! It feels like melting on the streets during the day!

My Favourite Food From Ben Thanh Market
#hiddengems #vianasjourney #awesomepic
#familytrips2024 #vianasjourney #deliciousfood
1) Crispy Vietnamese Pancake (Bánh xèo); savoury fried pancake made of rice flour. Stuffing including prawns and bean sprout. Mine was extra special because mixed with coconut milk which makes it more creamier and smells delicious. This one is my favourite of all.
2) Pho; This one need no introduction, I had it few times while in the city.
3) Chargrilled pork & betel leaves
4) Banh Flan (Vietnamese Creme Caramel - A Silky Egg Pudding)
5) Vietnamese Coconut Coffee - creamy texture and subtle tropical sweetness. But any vietnamese coffee worth trying.
6) Lychee - while I was visiting, lychee is in season and I think it is my favourite fruit from that trip.
Places Worth Visiting in Ho Chi Minh City
#familytrips2024 #vianasjourney #awesomepic
1) Ho Chi Minh Town Hall; Beautiful architecture -French colonial style.
2) Post Office; Old building, selling souveniors and if you interested to join hop in hop off bus, this is the starting point. Plenty of small food stall outside of the post office, all accept cash.
3) War Remnants Museum; There were plenty of real pictures during the war, how locals were struggling and everything. Be cautious if you bringing children because even for me, I got very emotional when reading and seeing those images. Ticket is very cheap, you can buy onsite/ at entrance.
4) Landmark 81; Tallest building in Vietnam. The lights makes it look majestic in the evening. If you have time, take the chance and view Saigon from the top of this building.
5) Tan Dinh Church; Unique because the colour if the building but honestly, it was hard to take nice pictures over here because it was super crowded. Visitors are not allowed during mass hours.
6) Bach Dang Station; More modern and colourful architectures. Near the harbour, there is an open space/ park with a lot of benches for visitors.
7) Ben Thanh Market; Selling mostly souveniors, clothes, food and drinks. All kind of stuff available here. If you wanna eat like local, come here. Food were super cheap but so delicious. Here what I recommend;
- Pho
- Vietnamese coffee
- Crispy Vietnamese Pancake ; contain shredded coconut
- chargrilled pork and betel leaves

What to do in Ho Chi Minh City? Let's prepare for the summer vacation!
Isn't it time to start preparing for the summer vacation?
If you don't want to miss out on both a resort and a city, I recommend the Ho Chi Minh-Mui Ne course!
I didn't expect much from Ho Chi Minh City and only planned two days for the first and the last day, but there was more to see than I thought.😀
There are many delicious restaurants and many tourist attractions nearby!
Post office, city hall, Ben Thanh Market, etc.
The nearby parks are also well-maintained, so it would be nice to take a leisurely look around!

THE DECK Saigon RESTAURANT - Ho Chi Minh
🕰️Business Hours: 8:00 AM - 12:00 AM Daily
🏖️Intro: The Deck is situated on the banks of the Saigon River, a short 15 minute journey from the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. Saigon's only modern restaurant Pan Asian cuisine where friendships, romance and fine food comes together. Once you’ve been greeted by a smile, share the sunset, unwind with a signature cocktail and enjoy the contemporary experience it will be hard for you depart.
📍Address: 38 Nguyen U Di St., Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
💰Average Price per Person: $20 – $50
💞Reasons to Recommend: Great location right on the river in a smart suburb a little out of the centre of HCMC. Great food for all courses, though portion size rather small. Nice people very comfortable and good wine list at reasonable prices. Great cocktails but over iced so quantity light again. Overall well worth a visit, and only downside is need for very deep pockets - the most expensive in HCMC we found.
