🏯 Himeji Castle｜Japan's most magnificent existing egret castle

📍 Location 68 Honmachi, Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture (Inside Himeji Park) ⸻ 🚉 Transportation • From Osaka: Approximately 30 minutes by JR Shinkansen (Shin-Osaka Station → Himeji Station), or approximately 1 hour by JR Kobe Line. • From Kyoto: Himeji Station is approximately 1 hour away by JR Shinkansen. • Upon arrival: The main gate of Himeji Castle is about a 15-minute walk or a 5-minute bus ride from Himeji Station. ⸻ 📝 Personal experience The first time I saw Himeji Castle, I couldn’t help but exclaim, “It’s so beautiful!” The whole city stands quietly on the edge of the city like a white egret with its wings spread. Its snow-white exterior walls look particularly spectacular and elegant under the blue sky. This is one of the few original wooden castles that survived the war. The interior structure is winding and climbing the stairs gives you the feeling of exploring a secret room. Standing on a high place and overlooking the entire Himeji city, you will feel as if you are looking down on all the mountains. If you come in spring, the scenery of cherry blossoms and the city will seem unreal; the red maple leaves in autumn also have a unique flavor. Although it requires a bit of leg strength, the whole visit is well worth it.
