A trip to Mount Heng in Nanyue.

At 8:00 am on September 22, I walked 227 meters from my residence in Hengyang to the bus stop and took bus No. 118 to the central bus station. I took a taxi to the Mount Heng Scenic Area in Nanyue. The scenic area is located at No. 37 Yanshou Road, Nanyue District, Hengyang City, Hunan Province. Among the "Five Sacred Mountains", Mount Heng is located in the south, hence its nickname "The Unique Mountain of the Five Sacred Mountains". The Nanshan in the well-known Chinese idiom "May you live as long as Nanshan" refers to Mount Heng. Mount Heng is a famous Taoist and Buddhist holy land. Four of the "Thirty-six Caves of Heaven and Seventy-two Blessed Lands" of Taoism are located on Mount Heng. The two genuine sarira of Buddha Sakyamuni are kept in the Diamond Sarira Pagoda of Nantaisi Temple on Mount Heng. Mount Heng Tourist Area was rated as one of the first batch of national 5A-level tourist attractions. After purchasing tickets on the second floor of the visitor center, I took the scenic bus to the mountain at 10:00 am and went straight to Nantianmen. It was summer at the foot of the mountain and winter at the top. The wind was strong and the fog was thick. I took a photo at the "May you live as long as Nanshan" scenic spot against the wind. The photo effect was not good. The weather was so bad that I couldn't even see 10 meters. As I didn't wear enough clothes, I bought a thick raincoat to block the wind and rain. After a quick tour of the Nantianmen scenic spot, I queued up for the scenic bus to go down the mountain. I got off the bus at Nantaisi Temple and visited the Magic Mirror Terrace. Chiang Kai-shek's official residence was located here, with a secret passage hidden in the wardrobe. After visiting the Magic Mirror Terrace, I continued to take the scenic bus down the mountain. The road was steep and winding. At 11:00 am, after passing many "S" curves, the scenic bus stopped at the foot of Xianglu Peak on Mount Heng. I arrived at the Nanyue Martyrs' Shrine. The Martyrs' Shrine, surrounded by pines and cypresses, was particularly solemn and awe-inspiring. It is one of the earliest and largest memorial sites of the Anti-Japanese War in China. It is also the only large-scale cemetery built by the National Government on the mainland to commemorate the martyrs of the Anti-Japanese War. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit. At 12:00 pm, I took the scenic bus to the exit of the visitor center, ending my trip to Mount Heng in Nanyue.
