2024 Hanoi Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Hanoi is the capital city of Vietnam. This is a city that mixes old and new. Cultural heritage sites are scattered nearly everywhere you look. St. Joseph's Cathedral is built to look like the Notre-Dame de Paris. The whole place is completely suffused with various flavors of history. The Temple of Literature is a Confucian temple in the Chinese architectural style, and the clouds of incense in the One Pillar Pagoda indicate its importance as a popular place for locals to pray. Other than traces of antiquity, there are also many scenic spots related to Ho Chi Minh such as the Ho Chi Minh Stilt House, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Ho Chi Minh Museum. You can go to Hoan Kiem Lake, where the locals like to stroll and cool off, or you can go to the 36 streets of the Old Quarter to buy unique local souvenirs. Once night falls, go to the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre to watch Vietnam's national art form - the water puppet show - come to life.

Along the tracks, there are numerous cafes where you can enjoy coffee or beer while waiting for the trains to pass. Trains pass from morning till night, but there can be delays or cancellations, so be sure to communicate with the shop staff to confirm the passing times. It's a thrilling spot, so be sure to visit!

Hanoi Train Street

Quite an interesting place in Hanoi because all the cafes face the train tracks, so when the train passes by there will be a unique experience. But be careful, cafe owners often scam by forcing you to sit in their cafe, you don't need to worry, just follow your instincts to get the best spot.
On average, this area offers delicious coffee.
Before ordering, it's a good idea to ask for the menu to find out the exact price.
Before you come here, make sure the train schedule passes through information on the internet/instagram because many have uploaded the train schedule, so you get the most unique experience.

The Night View of Hanoi's Old Quarter During the Mid-Autumn Festival
Hanoi, Vietnam, is beautifully decorated for the Mid-Autumn Festival. The scenic lights around Hoan Kiem Lake create a very leisurely atmosphere, making it an ideal place for a family vacation. During the day, you can take the city's sightseeing bus or nearby rickshaws.
A Unique Coffee Shop in Hanoi's Old Quarter
Located near Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi! The coffee shop features unique decor, with each floor having its own special design and small balconies. There are a total of five floors, and the rooftop has a large terrace offering a panoramic view of the Old Quarter. The latte is rich and delicious, served with a large ice ball. They also offer matcha-flavored coffee. It's definitely worth a visit to experience this charming city coffee shop!
Hanoi, a city that you will never forget.
Coming to Hanoi is like walking into a vivid painting. The old and the modern are intertwined here, and tradition and fashion collide here.
Let's talk about the old streets of Hanoi first. It's like a time tunnel, taking you back to the past. The narrow streets are lined with colorful French-style buildings, and the bright colors seem to tell the stories of the past. The small shops on the street are full of goods, some selling traditional handicrafts, some selling special snacks, and some are full of literary and artistic cafes. Walking in the old streets, you can hear the melodious music played by street artists, and see locals sitting leisurely on the side of the road drinking coffee and chatting. The pace of life here is slow, and people's mood can't help but relax.
The Sword Lake in Hanoi is a major highlight. The lake is clear and green, surrounded by lush trees. During the day, the sun shines on the lake, sparkling, and it is beautiful. There are many people walking and exercising by the lake, and some people are quietly reading on the benches by the lake. At night, the lights on the lake light up, and the entire Sword Lake becomes dreamlike. You can rent a small boat and sway gently on the lake, feeling the comfort of the breeze.
The Temple of Literature in Hanoi is also worth a visit. This is the ancient academy of Vietnam, full of strong cultural atmosphere. The architecture of the Temple of Literature is antique, with red walls and green tiles, and carved beams and painted buildings. Inside, Confucius and his disciples are enshrined, which makes people marvel at the inheritance of Chinese traditional culture in Vietnam. In the Temple of Literature, you can enjoy exquisite calligraphy works and ancient cultural relics, and understand the ancient Vietnamese education system and cultural traditions.
Speaking of Hanoi's food, it is really mouth-watering. The first thing to mention is Vietnamese pho. The delicious soup, smooth rice noodles, plus tender beef and various side dishes, you will never forget it after a bite. There are also spring rolls, thin skins wrapped with various vegetables and meat, dipped in special sauce, refreshing taste. Hanoi's coffee is also very distinctive, the strong coffee aroma plus sweet condensed milk, it is memorable. In the streets and alleys of Hanoi, you can find a snack stall or coffee shop anytime, anywhere, and taste these delicious foods.
The people of Hanoi are also very enthusiastic and hospitable. They always smile and are willing to help others. If you encounter difficulties in your journey, they will not hesitate to lend a helping hand. Here, you can feel the warmth and sincerity between people.
There are ancient buildings, beautiful scenery, delicious food and enthusiastic people. If you haven't been to Hanoi yet, hurry up and put it on your travel list! I believe you will have an unforgettable time here.
Hanoi Train Street
My visit to 'Hanoi Train Street' was a unique and thrilling experience. Located in the heart of Hanoi, this street is famous for the trains that regularly pass through, with houses and cafes closely lining both sides of the railway. While waiting for the train, I enjoyed sitting in one of the cafes that served traditional Vietnamese coffee. The atmosphere was vibrant, with locals and tourists gathering to watch the train slowly pass through the middle of the street. The experience was astonishing, and the feeling of the train passing by added a sense of adventure and suspense. It is a place unlike any other in Hanoi, combining local culture with excitement.
Truely a hidden gem
I got to hear about the hidden gem cafe from a group of tourists I met at the note cafe. They recommeded me this cafe as another interesting and unique spot for the egg coffee and hanoi adventures. Turns out not only the location is somewhat hidden. This such a unique cafe in it's design.
They have tastefully decorated with old, disused vehicle parts and paintings on the wall to create an a differnt sort of ambience. May be tricky to find but its not too far from the airport bus stop. I lovrd the egg coffee, food and their service. This should definitely be tried.

Best Viet Fusion in Hanoi
So I had been passing by this restaurant several times. It was only a matter of trying it. And when that happened, I went to this place every single day for atleast one or my meals over 10 days of stay in Hnaoi. The prices are perfect! The place is not too big but is spread over two levels in one of those hanoi style narrow buildings. The interiors are more of western colonial style.
It always had a mix of tourists and vietnamese. The bbq options seeemed more popular on the vietnamese tables. The menu was quite extensive and comprises largely Viet fusion. I was quite impressed with the food quality and the mildness of taste.
While over a course of 6-7 visits. I tried multiple things on the menu. Amongst my favourite was the bbq, the fried rice with pork in fish sauce and their fried stuff hits the spot. If you are in haboi and based anywhere close to the French quarters or headed there. This place needs to be tried!

Stepping inside, it feels like stepping into a train car, both classic and modern. The 2nd floor is also designed like a train car, the space is bright because it gets a lot of natural light.
- The shop also has a small balcony overlooking the lake, it's really cool to sit in this season 🥲 The shop is also renovating the rooftop nhaaa
▪About drinks, I tried the milk cream coffee (hot) - quite strong for those who get drunk easily on coffee, but I found it quite delicious, just a bit small huhu. The price is also quite high, 55-60k nhaaa. I really like the creativity in the space of the shop so I will definitely come back hihi
Hurry and go before it closes forever!

Hanoi train night market is only a short ride away from the old Quarter and it's a must visit experience. The train passes up real close while you sip your drink.
Best to check the train timings before getting there as some intervals are quite long. There will be touts asking you to sit at their shop before you can enter but do ignore them!
Lastly the authorities are deciding on whether to close this place so hurry!
