This little town hidden at the foot of the Alps is truly magical! Hallstatt is known as one of the most beautiful towns in the world, and every snapshot looks like a postcard. Sharing my fairy tale journey~ 🚩Must-visit spots: 1️⃣ Hallstatt Lake Viewpoint Location: Viewpoint Hallstatt (navigate directly on Google Maps) The best time to shoot is early morning when the lake is shrouded in mist, and the church spire appears faintly through the fog, like a fairyland. I got up at 6 AM to stake out the spot, freezing but totally worth it! 2️⃣ Market Square The town’s central square, surrounded by colorful Baroque-style houses. Don’t forget to visit the century-old salt shop Hallstatt Salz and buy a pack of local mountain salt with super vintage and cute packaging. 3️⃣ Bone House (Beinhaus) Address: Kath. Pfarramt Hallstatt, Kirchenweg 40 Due to limited land, the town developed a unique burial culture. The church stores over 1,200 skulls, each decorated with exquisite patterns and information about the deceased—both shocking and artistic. 4️⃣ Salt Mine Adventure Address: Salzwelten Hallstatt, Salzbergstraße 21 The world’s oldest known salt mine, where you can slide down wooden slides deep into the mine and experience miners’ life. Remember to bring a jacket; it’s about 8°C underground year-round. 🏨 Accommodation recommendation: Heritage Hotel Hallstatt Right by the lake, with balconies facing the lake view. In the morning, you can open the window and see swans swimming through the mist. I booked the last room three months in advance—very popular in peak season! 🍽 Food recommendations: • Gasthof Zauner (by the pier) Must-try lake fish and pumpkin soup; the owner will show you the fish caught that day. • Café Derbl (Market Square) Apple pie and mulled wine are a perfect match; sitting on the terrace offers a full view of the lake. 💡 Practical tips: 1. No outside vehicles allowed in the town; park at P1 and take the shuttle boat. 2. Stay overnight! The magic of sunrise and sunset light is the essence. 3. Wear slip-resistant shoes in winter; the cobblestone streets get very icy. 4. The postcard photo spot is actually a private balcony, and now there’s a €5 fee to take photos. This is probably what a fairy tale looks like—woken by church bells at dawn, rowing boats and feeding swans by day, sipping mulled wine by the lake at dusk. Every frame is unrealistically beautiful.
