Halifax Day 1: Public Gardens

Halifax Public Gardens is one of the oldest Victorian gardens in North America, dating back to 1867. It's very close to Citadel Hill, about a 15-minute walk away, at the intersection of Spring Garden Road and South Park Street. Here, you'll find 19th-century sculptures, ironwork, and plants. Many displays feature old photos from a century ago, offering a glimpse into the past. The pavilion in the center of the garden reportedly hosts concerts in the summer and is a favorite spot for weddings and graduation photos. Many ducks and birds gather by the lake, foraging freely on the grass. Visitors are prohibited from feeding them, as this encourages them to remain and disrupts their natural winter migration. The garden boasts a wide variety of plants, especially dahlias, whose vibrant colors and diverse varieties attract many photographers. Strolling along the shaded paths of the Public Gardens, you'll encounter ancient oak trees, beautiful unidentified plants, playful children, and elderly couples supporting each other. Sit on a park bench, soak up the sun, and let your mind wander – a rare moment of tranquility. Tip: Halifax Public Gardens is free. Besides the main gate, there are several smaller entrances.
