A Magical Day in Halong Bay While staying in Hanoi, I decided to spend a day in a special way — by booking a cruise through the legendary Halong Bay. It turned out to be a great decision. Early in the morning, we departed from Hanoi and arrived at Tuan Chau International Marina, where our journey began. We boarded the cruise and set off into the bay. The entire landscape was wrapped in mist, creating an almost otherworldly atmosphere. The limestone islands appeared and disappeared like ghosts in the fog — it was absolutely breathtaking. Buffet Lunch and First Stops Our first highlight was a buffet lunch on board, offering a wide range of traditional Vietnamese dishes. Fresh seafood, flavorful vegetables, and tasty desserts made for a perfect start to the day. After lunch, we headed to Titop Island. There, we could either swim or hike to the top of the island. I chose the hike, and despite the mist, the view over the bay was mesmerizing — mysterious and beautiful in a very special way. Kayaking and Caves Next, we visited Luon Cave. Here, we had the option to kayak or take a bamboo boat through the quiet waters. Paddling through the misty bay, surrounded by towering limestone formations, was a peaceful and unforgettable experience. Our final stop was Sung Sot Cave, the largest and most impressive cave in Halong Bay. Exploring the cave’s giant chambers and intricate rock formations was a perfect end to the tour. The mist outside made the entrance of the cave look even more dramatic. Final Thoughts Even though the sky stayed misty all day, Halong Bay was absolutely magical. The fog added a mysterious and dreamlike quality to the landscapes, making the entire experience unforgettable. If you are staying in Hanoi and have one free day, a cruise in Halong Bay is one of the best ways to spend it. Whether in sun or mist, Halong Bay is always stunning.
