He then began to write with the momentum of the sword, like lightning, like a dragon or a snake, vigorous and powerful, thus forming Zhang Zhi's cursive script. He mastered the brush techniques of Cui and Du, absorbed the essence of clerical script and Han bamboo slips, broke away from conventions, and created his own style. The structure of his characters was formed in one stroke, occasionally unconnected, but the bloodline was continuous, the strokes were coherent, and the lines were unbroken. His writing was like a flying waterfall and startling lightning, like a hanging ape drinking from a stream, or like hooks and chains linked together.
