The Former Site of Guangzhou Fire Department: A Century-Old Witness to the Rhythm of Fire

#Guangzhou Attractions At No. 47 Wenming Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, stands a building that combines the style of the Republic of China with modern mission - the former site of Guangzhou Fire Department. This Western-style building, designed by American architect Bertier, has witnessed the century-long journey of Guangzhou's fire protection system from scratch since its completion in 1927. Its iconic watchtower is 29.52 meters high and once overlooked the fire situation in the entire city as a "living radar". The wooden stairs and copper bells still retain the traces of time. Walking into the old site is like traveling through a time tunnel: fire-fighting equipment from the Qing Dynasty is displayed next to the English fireplace, medals of firefighters from the Republic of China are hung on the mottled walls, and modern fire trucks and virtual escape experience areas showcase the new look of technological fire prevention. During the open day on the first Saturday of each month, visitors can personally participate in fire-fighting drills and experience the professionalism of our “blue friends”. After renovation in 2024, this national cultural relic protection site continues to protect the atmosphere of the thousand-year-old commercial capital as the "fire brigade among cultural relics."
