The former site of the First National Labor Congress, located at No. 230 Binjiang West Road, Haizhu District, has gone through a hundred years of wind and rain, but it is still well preserved. I have passed by here many times on my bike before, but have never gone in to take a look. This time I deliberately walked in from the Erdi Temple Alley behind the building, just because the outer wall of the old site was painted light yellow, which was very photogenic in the sun. Then I went around to the gate on Binjiang Road to visit. The First National Labor Congress has extraordinary historical significance. The old site consists of two buildings, north and south. The north building is a Western-style concrete main building built in the 1920s, which was once the office of the Guangdong Machinery Workers' Union; the south building is a brick-and-wood structure auditorium converted from an old salt warehouse. A hundred years ago, on May 1, 1922, the first National Labor Congress was held here. 173 representatives from 110 trade unions in 12 major cities across the country participated in the conference. The conference accepted the political propositions put forward by the Communist Party of China, such as "Down with imperialism" and "Down with warlords", passed ten resolutions including the "Strike Assistance Bill", "Eight-Hour Work System", and "All-China Federation of Trade Unions Organizational Principles Bill", and decided that when the All-China Federation of Trade Unions was not yet established, the Secretariat of the Chinese Labor Union would be used as the national general communication agency. The bright red five-pointed star on the gate of the old site sparkles in the sun, contrasting with the large characters "The First National Labor Congress Site". As time goes by and the Pearl River continues to flow, this building by the river always carries the memory of the magnificent historical red labor movement of that year. #Guangzhou Old Street # #Haizhu District
