| Chen Clan Ancestral Hall | A Pearl of Lingnan Architecture. Guangzhou | Chen Clan Ancestral Hall Construction began in 1888, during the 14th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. The hall makes clever use of wood carvings, brick carvings, stone carvings, plaster sculptures, pottery sculptures, bronze and iron castings, and paintings. It is one of the most worthwhile buildings to see in southern China. It was built with funds donated by representatives of the Chen family from 72 counties in Guangdong Province over a period of 20 years. It is the largest, best-preserved, and most exquisitely decorated ancestral hall-style building in China, and is known as a pearl of Lingnan architecture. Worth a second visit!
