A city frozen in time.

Berne is such a wonderful place. Set in the heart of Switzerland, Bern is the gateway to the Alps. There are bears roaming freely around the city walls (in a safe environment). The people are nice, wonderful food and most of all, the beautiful architecture. It is one of Europe’s smallest capitals but punches above its weight when it comes to world-class galleries, unbeatable urban swimming and, of course, chocolates! For the best overview of Berne’s old town, climb up from the river to the Rosengarten. It has a restaurant, and its benches are popular in the colder months as it catches the sun.
