Greece's Sky City: Meteora

Meteora, meaning 'suspended in air,' refers to the 'Sky City.' Thousands of years ago, hermits seeking solitude and isolation began their ascetic practices here, living a humble life on the towering cliffs. When the mist rolls in, the clouds envelop the rock pillars, leaving the monasteries seemingly floating in the sky. Meteora is located north of the small town of Kalambaka, an entire area of rocky mountains, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
