Yamdrok Lake in Lhasa in Winter

Yamdrok Lake is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet. It is located in Shannan, 70 km southwest of Lhasa. Yamdrok Lake is a highland barrier lake formed by glacial mud and rock deposits millions of years ago. The lake covers an area of 675 square kilometers and has 21 islands of various sizes. These islands divide the lake into branches, so Yamdrok Lake is also known as the Coral Lake. It is located on the south bank of the Yarlung Zangbo River and is the largest inland lake in the northern Himalayas. The snow-covered peaks and the blue lake form a strong color contrast, making Yamdrok Lake look particularly clear and transparent.
