One of the beautiful three sacred lakes in Tibet, Yamdrok Lake

Yamdrok Lake is located in Langkazi County, Shannan City, Tibet Autonomous Region, and is a national 5A tourist attraction. Its lake surface reaches an altitude of 4,441 meters, with a lake surface area of 675 square kilometers. It is a saltwater lake and also a tectonic lake. Yamdrok Lake, together with Namtso and Mapam Yumco, are known as the three sacred lakes of Tibet. It is the largest inland lake on the northern slope of the Himalayas, boasting the unparalleled beauty of lake and mountain views in southern Tibet. In Tibetan, Yamdrok Lake means 'turquoise lake swan pool'. The lake has many tributaries, like coral branches, so it is also called 'coral lake above' in Tibetan. Yamdrok Lake is a plateau barrier lake, which was formed about a year ago due to glacial mudslides blocking the river. Its shape is very irregular, with many branches, winding lake shores, and it is accompanied by three small lakes such as Kongmu Co, Chen, Co and Jiu Co. It used to be an outflow lake in history, but later due to the shrinkage of the lake water, it became an endorheic lake and was divided into several small lakes.
