China's Cold Pole

Genhe City is a county-level city in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, located in the northern part of Hulunbuir City, on the western slope of the northern section of the Greater Khingan Range. Driving through Mangui Town, you will reach Mohe in Heilongjiang Province, one of the northernmost cities in China. Genhe is a transliteration of the Mongolian 'Gegen Gol,' meaning 'clear and transparent river.' This is the coldest place in China, with an average winter temperature of minus 30 degrees Celsius. In 2009, the extreme temperature once reached minus 58 degrees Celsius, surpassing Mohe, but it has not been officially recognized.
