Fushimi Inari Shrine

One of my favourite shrine to visit i. Kyoto. Word of advice is to go early (before 8am) as it gets really crowded and it will be difficult to take photos. There’s no entrance fee to go in either. Although the front part of the shrine has a large crowd, this shrine was worth going as there is a nice hike up to the hill behind it that has many other tinier areas if worship. The hike itself takes about an hour (due to stopping for souvenirs and photos as well) and its beautiful thus worth the effort (a proper workout!). The hike around the hill can be done clockwise or counter. Counter clockwise (starting from the vending machine) is MUCH easier. This Shinto shrine, known for its thousands of vibrant red torii gates, offers an enchanting walk that winds its way up Mount Inari. Despite the crowd, there's a sense of tranquility that makes the hike feel personal and reflective. The path is punctuated with smaller shrines and occasional viewpoints overlooking Kyoto, which add layers of enjoyment to the visit. Though I didn't make it all the way to the mountain's summit, the journey itself felt fulfilling. #kyototrip
