Kushida Shrine is the guardian deity of Hakata and has the oldest history. It is known as "Kushida-san" and is deeply loved by local residents. Since ancient times, he has been a god who blesses people with immortality, longevity and prosperous business, and has won the devout belief of the people. It is generally believed that it was invited from the Kushida Shrine in Matsuzaka, Ise, and the current shrine was built when Toyotomi Hideyoshi rebuilt Hakata. The ginkgo tree of Kushida stands at the entrance of the shrine grounds. It is a designated natural monument of Fukuoka Prefecture and is also mentioned in the "Hakata Celebration". The tree is said to be over 1,000 years old and has been revered as a sacred tree since ancient times. This is also the shrine that hosts Hakata's representative summer festival, the "Hakata Gion Yamakasa", and the Yamakasa mikoshi is displayed throughout the year (except June). The Yamakasa Mikoshi is 13 meters tall and very impressive, making it a great place for taking photos. In addition, the "Oiyamakasa" will be held at the end of the festival, with Kushida Shrine as the starting point.
