After that, in the first year of Owa (961) in the middle of the Heian period, Kuya Shonin, known for his dancing Nenbutsu, built the Shichido Garan. It flourished greatly as the centre of Kannon faith in the Tanba region. It reached its peak in the Kamakura period, and under the protection of the shogun of the time, Tokiyori Hojo and Sadatoki, it developed as a temple with more than 25 temples. When the main image of the secret Buddha, "Eleven-faced Thousand-handed Thousand-Gan Kannon Bosattva", the hydrangea tree was planted with a request to offer all kinds of lanterns. It grows well in line with the climate of this area, and about 100 species of 10,000 hydrangeas bloom in season. Pretty white and blue, gorgeous purple and pink...
