Enoshima Iwaya Cave Exploration

The sea cave located at the far end of the island. It is said that in ancient times, Kobo Daishi and Nichiren Shonin also practiced here, and it has been revered as the birthplace of Enoshima faith. It is also said that in the second year of Yowa (1182), Minamoto no Yoritomo prayed here for the conquest of Fujiwara no Hidehira of Oshu. There are two caves: the first cave, which is 152 meters deep and is said to connect to the ice cave of Mount Fuji, and the second cave, which is 56 meters deep and is said to be the site of the dragon god legend. The stone Buddhas and rock walls illuminated by candlelight invite you into a mystical world. ・Opening hours 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (varies by season)
