Dinner @ Zhu Rou Poh 猪肉婆

First meal in Foshan. Zhu Rou Poh (猪肉婆) is a household name in Foshan, and it’s one of those higher-end spots - especially if you’re into live seafood and don’t mind splurging a little. What really sets this place apart is the market vibe: you actually get to pick out your own vegetables and seafood right there, and then tell the staff exactly how you want everything cooked. It’s such a fun and refreshing way to dine! We ordered the whole tung sing pan, which came out in a few different styles - sashimi with all the classic condiments, a comforting fish soup, and then steamed with fragrant mandarin peel. To wrap up the meal, we had some veggies and rice (not part of the fish course, but a nice finish with vege and carbo). But Zhu Rou Poh isn’t just about the food - the ambience is something special too. Every corner of the restaurant is picture-perfect, and it feels like you’re wandering through a little village. There’s also a little souvenir shop stocked with their own merchandise, including seafood and various dried goods which is perfect for some last-minute shopping or to bring home a taste of your visit. I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re after top-notch ingredients, expert cooking, and a great atmosphere.
