Behind me you see the Ponte Vecchio - a medieval stone arch bridge that spans the Arno River in Florence, Italy. How picturesque are the views? 💖✨ Some interesting facts about the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence: 1. Ponte Vecchio means "old bridge" in Italian. 2. The bridge dates back to 1345, and it was the only bridge across the Arno River to survive World War II. 3. The bridge is lined with charming shops that sell a variety of items. The stores date back to the 14th century when the shops were originally occupied by butchers and fishmongers, but today they are mostly jewellery shops. 4. The bridge also features the Vasari Corridor, which is an elevated passageway. It was built in the 16th century by the architect Giorgio Vasari, which connects the Uffizi Gallery to the Palazzo Pitti. 5. The Ponte Vecchio offers great views of the city, especially at sunset, which is when I went and was lucky to witness the most beautiful sunset.
