The White Emperor Temple (Part 2)

The White Emperor Temple contains Ming and Qing dynasty structures such as the Mingliang Hall, the Wuhou Shrine, and the Guanxing Pavilion. The Mingliang Hall, built in the twelfth year of the Jiajing era (1533), is the main building of the temple, housing statues of Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei. The Wuhou Shrine enshrines the images of Zhuge Liang and his descendants for three generations. In front of the shrine is the Guanxing Pavilion. On both sides of the Mingliang Hall and the Wuhou Shrine are famous steles from various dynasties. In August of the second year of Zhangwu (222), Liu Bei was defeated by Eastern Wu at the Battle of Yiling and retreated beyond the Kui Gate. From then on, Liu Bei fell ill and never recovered, entrusting his young son to Zhuge Liang at Yong'an Palace in Yong'an City (present-day Kuizhou City in Fengjie County, Chongqing) near Baidi City.
