The "Dunkirk Princess Elizabeth" is a small steamship that played a key role in the Dunkirk evacuation (Operation Dynamo) during World War II. The ship was a steam-powered passenger ship built in 1927, originally used by the Southern Railway to transport passengers between the English Channel city of Southampton and the Isle of Wight (IoW). However, in 1940, when the Dunkirk evacuation began and the Royal Navy requisitioned civilian ships to solve the shortage of warships, the "Princess Elizabeth" also took part in the operation. The ship was used to rescue approximately 330,000 British and French soldiers stranded on the beaches of Dunkirk. The ship was converted into a restaurant.
