The miraculous handiwork of nature beneath the Himalayas, Qilin Gorge

Qilin Gorge is located in Dingjie County, Shigatse Region, Tibet, about 200 kilometers from Shigatse and over 260 kilometers from the Everest Base Camp. The gorge spans approximately 15 kilometers in length, with a width ranging from 100 to 200 meters, and a depth reaching 200 meters. Dense earth forests are distributed along both sides of the gorge, while a clear stream flows at the bottom. As the name suggests, the most spectacular sight in Qilin Gorge is the densely packed, peculiar earth forests on both sides of the gorge. They come in various shapes, rising from the ground like bamboo shoots after a spring rain, standing thousands of feet tall, resembling an enlarged version of the 'Terracotta Army'. They are a rare sight in the world, awe-inspiring, and captivating at a glance, leaving a lasting impression. Qilin Gorge is a natural wonder. Standing on the bank of the gorge, breathing the thin air, with the breeze brushing your cheeks, and looking into the depths of the gorge, you feel not only the awe the landscape brings but also the insignificance of oneself. You can directly experience the power of time and the flow of water. After millions of years of wind and rain erosion and the scouring of melting snow, this group of peculiar, mound-like earth forest landscapes was formed. Departing from Shigatse and taking the G318 to Gangba County, then turning onto the 219 line and driving 200 kilometers, about 3.5 hours, you will find a Tibetan village named Mumu. This is the entrance to the Qilin Gorge scenic area. However, to see the earth forests within the scenic area, you need to drive another 10 kilometers along the scenic road. When you see the flat ground suddenly dip, you have arrived at Qilin Gorge. Although Qilin Gorge in Shigatse, Tibet, is beautiful, it is not recommended for elderly people with poor health to visit, nor is it advisable for young and middle-aged tourists to go alone. If you are driving to Qilin Gorge, you need to apply for a border pass for the Shigatse region in advance. Moreover, due to environmental protection, private vehicles are not allowed into the scenic area, and you need to take a shuttle bus to enter.
