Taking the kids to Gannan this time was absolutely amazing! The beautiful scenery and rich cultural experiences along the way made the kids super happy. The favorite spot was Zhagana, known as "China's Most Beautiful Village," and it truly lives up to its name. Surrounded by mountains and shrouded in mist, it looks like a fairyland. We took the kids on a light hike to immerse ourselves in the original rural scenery and breathe fresh air. 🚗 Self-driving Preparation 1. Vehicle Check: Conduct a thorough check of the vehicle before departure, including tires, brakes, and engine oil to ensure driving safety. Some roads in Gannan have many curves and steep slopes, which require good vehicle performance. 2. In-car Items: Bring a car charger, picnic mat, sunshade, etc., to enhance travel comfort. 3. Route Planning: Plan the route in advance and download offline maps. Some areas in Gannan have poor signal, and offline maps can be a lifesaver at critical moments (this is super important‼️ We forgot to download offline maps from Langmu Temple to Ruoergai Grassland and had to drive around looking for signal halfway). 👶🏻 Family Tips 1. Altitude Sickness Prevention: Gannan’s average altitude is about 3,000 meters, and some people may experience altitude sickness, especially children. Prepare children’s altitude sickness medicine and oxygen bottles in advance. After arrival, avoid strenuous activities for kids, encourage rest, and drink plenty of water (my kid was in great shape, running around all the time with no discomfort, while the adults chasing him felt a bit of altitude sickness). 2. Clothing Preparation: Mountain temperatures vary greatly, with a 20℃ difference between morning and evening. Bring a thick jacket, as well as sun-protective clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a sun hat to ensure proper sun protection. 3. Entertainment Arrangements: Kids can get bored during long car rides, so bring some small toys, picture books, and snacks. Let the kids get out and move around at rest stops. 📌 Travel Notes 1. Respect Local Customs: Gannan is a Tibetan-inhabited area with a strong religious atmosphere. When visiting temples, dress neatly, avoid loud noises, follow temple rules, and do not touch Buddha statues, scriptures, or other religious items casually. 2. Protect the Environment: The beautiful scenery of Gannan needs everyone’s protection. Do not litter. 3. Driving Safety: Mountain roads have many curves and steep slopes. Control your speed and drive cautiously. Be patient when yaks or sheep cross the road; do not honk to scare them away. In Gannan, you can enjoy breathtaking natural scenery and let your children experience diverse cultural charm.
