A Journey Through Time at Ahsan Manzil – The Pink Palace of Dhaka

Dhaka that captures the soul of its rich, colonial-era history, it's Ahsan Manzil. Known fondly as the Pink Palace, this architectural gem sits proudly on the banks of the Buriganga River, and my visit there was nothing short of magical. Walking into Ahsan Manzil felt like stepping back in time. The grandeur of its Indo-Saracenic architecture immediately grabs your attention, with its bubble-shaped domes, sweeping staircases, and of course, its signature pastel-pink façade. But it wasn’t just about how it looked — it was the feeling of walking where nawabs once ruled, where decisions were made that shaped the future of Bengal. Inside, the museum rooms are carefully curated to tell stories of Dhaka’s aristocracy. My personal favorite? The drawing room with its antique furniture, chandeliers, and portraits that gave a vivid glimpse into 19th-century elite life. As someone who loves history, it was incredible to see how Ahsan Manzil blended Mughal and European influences — not just in the architecture but in every piece of décor. The best time to visit, in my opinion, is during the winter months — November to February. The weather is pleasantly cool, and you can leisurely stroll the palace grounds without the sweltering summer heat. And make sure to visit on a weekday morning to avoid the local weekend crowds. Bonus tip: The location is near Sadarghat, so if you’re feeling adventurous, hop on a boat ride along the Buriganga afterward — it completes the experience! Ahsan Manzil isn’t just a tourist spot — it’s a living piece of Bangladesh’s heritage. Whether you're a history lover, a photographer, or simply curious, this place will leave a lasting impression.
