✿ If We Don't End War, War Will End Us. ✿ The Derby War Memorial was built in 1924 and is located in downtown Derby - in front of Derby Guildhall (City Hall). The Derby War Memorial bronze statue of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus in her hands is believed to soothe the public and bring peace to the area. Behind the bronze figure is a giant cross and the pedestal is engraved with the inscription The Great War/1914-1918, a monument to the First World War. The inscription For Faith/And Home/And Righteousness/World War 1939–1945 was later added to honor those who died in World War II. The bronze statue stands in the city center where people come and go, as if with everyone and symbolizing that it will not be forgotten by the world. During the tour and passing by, I saw many people offering fresh flowers in mourning. The scene was touching, commemorating the deceased people while also making people reflect on the impact of the world war on future generations.
