Shanxi Datong | National Volcanic Geopark

Datong, with its legendary charm in the long river of history, was the capital of the Northern Wei Dynasty and has always been a strategic location for military leaders. It is known as the 'Phoenix City' and 'China's Coal Capital.' The Datong Volcanic Group National Geopark is the only volcanic group in the world developed on the Loess Plateau and is one of China's six famous volcanic groups. Each volcano here has its own name, such as Jinshan and Langwoshan, named according to their different shapes. The black volcanic rocks along the way give a feeling of walking on Mars. The scenery of Langwoshan is definitely the best. Walking around the horseshoe-shaped crater, who knows what you might discover? If you have time, be sure to see Heishan in the evening.
