Datian - Dongban She Ethnic Village

Dongban She Ethnic Village is located in the northern part of Taoyuan Town, Datian County, Sanming City. The village was formed and established during the early Song Dynasty (960-997 AD). It is 9 kilometers away from the town center and consists of four natural villages, inhabited by families with surnames such as Wu, Xiong, Liu, Huang, Zhang, and Lin. There are three dialects spoken here: Hakka, local, and Minnan. The main industries are rice, corn, and vegetables, with bamboo, high mountain tea, and She medicine as auxiliary industries. Over the centuries, Dongban has maintained its history of over a thousand years. The ancient residences are well-preserved, the scenery is beautiful, and the cultural heritage is rich and unique. The original ecology has long been free from pollution and destruction. The unique She culture, the green hills and waters, the ancient residences, the thousand-year-old trees, and the profound folk customs are like a fine aged wine, intoxicating without drinking. Dongban is a thousand-year-old village, an ecological rural area, a beautiful countryside, a She ethnic village, and a cultural village. It is the only She ethnic minority village in Datian. The ecological advantages are obvious, with fertile land and abundant forest resources. It has rich cultural heritage resources: the national-level cultural relic protection unit 'Anliang Fort' built by the Xiong ancestors; the Xiong Ancestral Hall 'Desheng Jincheng'; the temple fair activities held every year in the third lunar month with Anliang Fort as the theme, including rituals, fire-walking, and communal meals; and the 'Fujintang' built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty by the fifth-rank official Wu Dafu.
